Manually Operated Rifle Basic Training — Sable Arms
At Sable Arms we believe responsible rifle ownership and use starts with solid fundamentals, disciplined handling, and respect for the firearm. Our Manually Operated Rifle Basic Training course is a comprehensive, PFTC (Professional Firearms Training Council)-accredited programme designed to teach safe, competent operation of manually operated rifles — including bolt-action, lever-action, and pump-action platforms. The course blends legal knowledge, safety, marksmanship fundamentals, and practical range work in a structured, professional environment.
This course provides the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required to own, operate, maintain, and store manually operated rifles safely. Key topics include:
The four universal firearm safety rules and practical application for manually operated rifles.
Types of manually operated rifles (bolt-action, lever-action, pump-action): differences in operation, strengths, and typical uses.
Rifle anatomy & components — barrels, bolts, actions, magazines/tubular feeds, sights, stocks, and common accessories.
Ammunition and ballistic basics — calibres, external ballistics considerations, and selecting appropriate ammunition for hunting, target shooting, or training.
Safe loading and unloading procedures, chamber checks, and safe transition between actions.
Shooting fundamentals — correct stance, natural point of aim, cheek weld, sight picture, trigger control, breathing, and follow-through for accurate, repeatable shots.
Bolt/lever/pump manipulation — efficient, safe techniques for cycling the action, maintaining sight picture where appropriate, and minimizing muzzle movement.

Malfunction recognition and safe clearing procedures specific to manually operated systems.
Basic maintenance and cleaning — disassembly basics, bore care, lubrication points, and inspection routines to prolong service life.

The standard course runs one full day (approximately 6–8 hours) combining classroom instruction with live-fire range sessions. Small class sizes ensure personalised coaching, close supervision, and immediate corrective feedback. We also offer modular or extended training for advanced marksmanship, long-range fundamentals, or group bookings.
Safety is our highest priority. Every session begins with a thorough safety briefing and range rules. Live-fire exercises are overseen by PFTC-certified range officers and instructors.
