The Handgun Basic Training course provides a strong foundation in firearm safety, handling, and operation. It includes both classroom instruction and live-fire practical sessions under the supervision of qualified and accredited instructors. Training is conducted according to PFTC standards, ensuring that every student meets national competency requirements and learns the correct methods of safe firearm use.
During this course, students will learn:
The four universal firearm safety rules and their practical application.
The parts, function, and operation of a handgun.
Ammunition basics and how to identify different types safely.
Loading, unloading, and clearing malfunctions correctly.
Shooting fundamentals — stance, grip, sight picture, sight alignment, trigger control, and follow-through.
Safe storage and transport of firearms.
Legal responsibilities under South African firearm law, including the Firearms Control Act.

Safety & Equipment

All live-fire training is conducted at our accredited range under the supervision of PFTC-certified range officers and assessors. Eye and ear protection are mandatory and can be provided if needed. Firearms and ammunition are available for hire — please arrange this prior to your course date.
Certification & Competency
Upon successful completion, participants receive a PFTC-accredited Sable Arms Handgun Basic Training Certificate, which forms part of the recognized competency process under the South African Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000).
