What You’ll Learn (Combined Curriculum Highlights)
The Four-Basic Combo integrates essential theory and practical work for each platform while emphasising transferable principles:
• Universal safety & PFTC standards — four firearm safety rules, safe storage & transport, range discipline, and legal responsibilities under South African law.
• Platform fundamentals — anatomy, operation differences (handgun actions, shotgun chokes & loads, semi-auto gas systems, bolt/lever/pump manipulation) and appropriate ammunition selection.
• Handling & manipulation — safe loading/unloading, magazine & feed system management, malfunction recognition and clearing, re-holstering and muzzle discipline.
• Marksmanship basics — stance, grip/mount, sight alignment, trigger control, follow-through, recoil management and patterning (shotgun).
• Practical drills — controlled dry-fire work, live-fire accuracy and handling drills for each weapon type, basic zeroing for rifles, and platform-specific maintenance routines.
• Contextual training — application in hunting, sport, and business environments; decision-making and de-escalation for business-use participants.
Format & Duration
Delivered as an intensive modular programme over 2 full days (approx. 12–16 hours) or as a flexible multi-session course depending on client needs. Each platform receives classroom theory plus supervised live-fire blocks with low instructor:student ratios to ensure personalised coaching. Corporate or unit courses can be condensed or extended (add low-light work, advanced marksmanship, or scenario drills).
Safety & Equipment
All practical training is conducted at our accredited range under PFTC-certified instructors and range officers. Eye/ear protection is mandatory and provided on request. Participants may use employer-issued or personal firearms with prior authorisation; rental firearms and appropriate ammunition (handgun, birdshot/buck/slug, rifle calibres) are available if required.
Certification & Employer Support
On successful completion participants receive separate PFTC-accredited Sable Arms Basic Training Certificates for each of the four platforms. For business clients we supply template employer firearms policies, incident reporting forms, and guidance for integrating training outcomes into standard operating procedures.
